State

competition

On March 5th, students from New Fairfield DECA went to Southington to compete at DECA State Competitions. Mr. Scherf and almost 100 students went to the Aqua Turf in Southington. Marketing 2 students had been working on their projects for months leading up to DECA State’s. Out of almost 100 students, New Fairfield had 12 winners. MaryKate Boggan  was a finalist in in the sports and entertainment marketing series event. Caitlyn Cennamo was a finalist in hotel and lodging management category. Cooper Raiano, Mikey O’Connor and Jeremy Bauer placed 3rd in the sports and entertainment marketing operation research event, along with Jolyn Schumaker, Angelina Mollica, and Caroline Kozlow that placed 3rd in the learn and earn project category. Emma Reuther, Nicole Berry and Colleen Allison placed 2nd in the entrepreneurship promotion project. Angela Cupo was the First Place winner in the retail merchandising series. Students in marketing 2 class presented their written event that they have been working on for many months. They sent in their written portions to the judges a few weeks ago, on the day of states each of the group presents their project to a judge.

States are a bit different for marketing 1 students, they took an online test a few weeks ago, at states they worked either individually or with a partner and did a case study and presented to a judge. The judge scores their case study and that score is added to their test score for their total.

Next Stop for these competitors is DECA National Competition in Orlando, Florida. Anyone that placed in the top 3 of their category is eligible to go to Nationals. Good luck to any competitors that decide to go and compete.
