HOW DO STATE COMPETITIONS WORK FOR MARKETING I STUDENTS?
State competitions are separated into two different formats in which students compete. The first are role plays/case studies in which Marketing I students choose a topic of marketing they will be competing with about a month before the event. They then take an online test relating to their topic, having their scores sent into CT DECA. On the day of competitions, students are presented with a situation, often times relating to some form of business ethics. It is then up to them, either with a partner or solo, to devise a solution to the issue at hand, presenting their fixes to the judges. The results of their tests and role play responses are then added together to represent their final score.

HOW DO STATE COMPETITIONS WORK FOR MARKETING II STUDENTS?
Secondly there are projects that Marketing II students are challenged with about 4 months prior to competitions. Students are given a series of categories in which they can choose from to specify exactly what the goals should be of their projects. They are then given the freedom to take the task in whatever direction they please, either carrying out a real life event, or choosing to study a business. These Marketing II's then must complete and turn in a written section describing just what they did before presenting their project to the judges at states.

WHAT DOES A DAY CONSIST OF AT DECA STATE COMPETITIONS?
Being the biggest event of the year held by Connecticut DECA, students come ready to compete from all necks of CT. Upon arrival, it is obvious the level of seriousness in which these schools take the competition, prompting us to step it up to our "A game". Throughout the course of the day, students are to compete at the designated time and locations they have been informed of in advance. Locations included both the Aqua Turf and an off campus church site where many Marketing II's competed. Following the presentation time, a long day lies ahead of you back at the Aqua Turf. However, the students of NFHS did an incredible job of remaining both pleasant and engaged. About halfway through the day, students were provided with a pizza lunch to hold them over before the end of the day ceremony. It was at the ceremony where awards were announced and a family style dinner was served.
